Lignite: big volumes, soft but abrasive
Lignite is softer than coal but carries a lot of clay and sand from the overburden. Long conveyors in opencast lignite mines need a thick top cover and a strong carcass. Spillage and wet material make tracking a common problem, so keep the belt edges in good condition.
